In the month of February we had Biftu Wako and Veronicah Nduku reporting in form one at Kaliluni girls high school in Machakos and Daniel Mboya in Makueni boys high school, this is going to be a new experience for them and we know they are going to enjoy it. It is our greatest desire as Real Stars to see this students excel in their secondary school education and even make it to university level. We hope to give them all the support they need and together with our partners and sponsors we pray for their success.

Real News from Real Stars
Happy New Year!! We thank the Almighty for yet another chance to share with you about His blessings upon us. We hope that you had a wonderful festive season and have now embarked on business in the New Year with God’s blessing. We take this opportunity to thank God for good health and a nice holiday since most of our kids were at home for December holiday.
2011 has started and we give all Glory to our Almighty for bringing us this far. We are glad that this year we watched more children go back to school; join new classes and new schools depending on their levels. The children who had completed primary education have now successfully joined high school and we really thank God for the support you have given to them, we are just but stewards of the funds you give us and we can’t help but rejoice with you when the children succeed. The children expressed heartfelt gratitude and together with us continually pray for you.
The month of January has started on a busy note. Our children were going back to school and things were hectic for us because we also had three form one students who were reporting in high school. We had to do shopping for them, make payments for their school fees and met all requirements and by God’s grace we managed to get all that done and the children reported to school on time. Now that all the kids have gone to school we are embarking on office work and home visits.
God also blessed us with several visitors in the month of January, we had Plettenberg Charlie and Mary who partner with us in Germany, they do our accounts back in Germany and it was nice being with them. We also had Tracy from United States of America, who came to see what we do at Real Stars .We visited some families in Kibera with the visitors from Germany and they were happy to meet the families and to hear our success story. We visited a home of one of the children in the programme. They were so happy to meet the family and were surprised how ten people could squeeze themselves in one single room, all the same the family was so happy and appreciated for the support they were receiving from real stars.

The weather has not been bad this year and we thank the almighty God. We have been having rain which brings a smile to our face. Though there was a stretch of weeks in which it was exceptionally warm, we thank God for good harvest in relatively most of places in Kenya. We pray that the weather will be manageable for the rest of the year.
OUR REAL STAR FOR JANUARY-FEBRUARY MONTHOur real star for the January is Daniel Mboya , a child who has overcome all the barriers of poverty and all that comes with it and has emerged as a star not only in their village but in the country. Mboya is born in a family of two living in Mwingi district, eastern province of Kenya. He is the first born in the family.The father is believed to have died because he was HIV positive. Thanksgiving
We want to thank God the new year which started on a high note and with success. We also want to thank God for giving us three more sponsors thus expanding our reach to more children. We also thank God for opening a door and providing fees for Agnes who was our volunteer to join a college, she is now taking a degree in law at catholic university. Now we have a new volunteer Grace who came after Agnes, Angela has also been helping and we thank God for their commitment.

DevotionA brief devotion from Rose ...It is great to focus on what the Lord is doing around us. He is indeed at work and wants us to join Him. What a privilege! In the last few months so much has happened and I have realized all I need is to grow in Faith... For whoever would draw near to God must believe He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him. This is why we need to seek Him. I am so thankful that this year has begun with showers of blessings. All our Kids were able to go to school and all the school fees have been paid this is indeed a reason to thank God!-- Today, I want to serve Jesus in a beautiful way!

Real News from Real Stars.
Receive our warm greetings in the name of Jesus Christ! We hope that the Lord has kept you and blessed you in all your endeavours.
The weather in Kenya is mainly sunny; this is perfect weather for the upcoming festive season! We thank God for showing us his favour throughout the year.
First and foremost, we would like to appreciate all our dear sponsors for supporting our children in all ways and means. You are a blessing to Real Stars. Our prayer for you is that your light will keep on shining.
2010 began with a buzz of activities at Real Stars. Our kids were moving into new classes. There was a lot of excitement as well. Uniforms are a necessity for most Kenyan schools. Some children received new school uniforms.
Our children opened school with smiles on their faces for having received school fees on time. We did shopping for personal effects for every child who attends a boarding school.
It is imperative to state that, all the necessities for the kids were available. We attribute all our successes to God and to all our dear sponsors.
Let’s take a look at our star of the month!
This December, we are focusing on Phanadis Mwala
Phanadis attended school this year with ease. At the beginning of the year, he received a new full school uniform, a pair of school shoes, stationary, as well as a school bag. Phanadis’ school fee was paid on time. To us Phanadis is one child who God has helped to see and appreciate the opportunity God has given him through the sponsors and he is using this to produce the best out of him. His positive outlook to life and enthusiasm to excel has amazed us and we are grateful to God for this; for it is God’s grace that has guided Phanadis in school. He performs well in class.
During his last term in grade 6 this year, he was ranked position 8 out of sixty 65. We would like to applaud him for a job well done. He informed Real Stars that he would like to top his class the coming year and we pray that God grants him this wish. He is very enthusiastic to join grade 7 and so are we.
He is not only good in class but also in the extracurricular activities in school as well as helping the mother at home. He is very active in sports and the teachers speak well of him. He plays basketball, baseball, football and tennis. His favorite sport is baseball. He informed us that he likes hitting and throwing the ball while playing with his friends. His school played baseball against a neighboring school and scooped the first position last term. He is very responsible. His class teacher gave h
im the responsibility of being a group leader; this is commonly referred to as group prefect. He also enjoys going to church especially his Sunday school classes. Phanadis has a great ambition of becoming a pilot in the future. He says that he would like to fly a plane one day.
At home, he enjoys helping his mother to do house chores such as fetching water, washing the house and taking care of his little brother (Robert Mutie).
On behalf of Phanadis, we would like to thank you for being a blessing to us. Your support has propelled Phanadis to a higher level; you have made a great contribution in making him the star of this month and an example to the other children as we close the year.
Real Stars updates
We have been privileged to take our kids to an “End Year Christian Camp” in Diguna Ongata Rongai. The camp started on 24th November and ended on the 3rd of December.
Diguna is located next to the Nairobi National Park. There is a breath taking scenery of beautiful animals from Diguna. Our kids had the pleasure of indulging in camp activities with the existence of wild animals a stone throw away. This was also an opportunity for them to appreciate God’s creation.
We always strive to see our kids end the year in style. Kids reported to Real Stars that they really had a good time at Diguna.
The camp organizers were very industrious. Each one of them had a responsibility to handle. They ensured that the camp went on for one week successfully. It was filled with fun and scores of activities for the kids.
Diana (Volunteer at Real Stars) had an opportunity to join the rest of the kids for a day at the camp. She arrived in the morning and had a privilege of talking to the camp coordinator who briefed her on the camp’s progress.
The kids had a daily program that they followed. They normally woke up early to prepare themselves for the eventful day ahead.
Soon after, they met for a Quiet Time session. During this time, they discussed on a Bible scripture and asked questions in relation to the subject matter. The session was a jump start to the day’s exciting activities.
This year’s theme for the camp was, “Man”. They had a pastor who took them over the whole topic. Some of the topics that were discussed on were:
Ø The creation of man.
Ø The fall of man
Ø Remedy for sin
The children were really blessed and we hope that this camp will help in building a good moral foundation.
My devotion for the end of the year
This year has been wonderful although I felt like it went too fast! I would like to share with you some of my thoughts that were captured so well in Revelation 3.....Have you ever wondered how heaven will be like? This will express my thanksgiving to my Lord Jesus Christ as we enter into a NEW year...Please read on..
And I heard a sound from heaven, Like the roar of rushing waters, Like a loud peal of thunder,
The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps,
And they sang a new song before the Throne and before the four living creatures and the elders:
“You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because you were slain,
and with your blood you purchased men for God
persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.
10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign[b] on the earth.”
11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand.
They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders.

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength
and honor and glory and blessing!”
13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

forever and ever!”
Amen and amen.
Christmas and New Year Festive Season
Christmas has come to real stars with a lot of excitement. The children are so excited to have come to the end of the year, having seen the faithfulness of God, being in good health and enjoying a blessing from the faithful sponsors. Words cannot express how we and the children are grateful for a full year support and the gifts that have come for the children this festive season
Because of your generosity, we had enough finances to buy Christmas gifts for our gifts. This ensured that they had enough to eat over the festive season.
We are closing and different guardians and their children have come to the office to receive Christmas gifts and tokens from real stars. They are excited about everything and are wishing all the sponsors a great festive season and are praying for you. On behalf of all the children, the real stars wishes to express heartfelt gratitude for giving the children a smile this season.

September - October Newsletter
Jambo everyone!
Here’s REAL NEWS from REAL STARS .
We take this opportunity to thank God for good health and the August holiday that has just ended. Most of our kids were at home for holiday, the rest went back for holiday tuition. We have three school terms in Kenya. These are: first term, second term and third term. Each term has three months and a one month holiday follows thereafter.
We are happy because God is enabling us to reach out to many more children. Rose had a nice journey back home from Germany and we are really grateful to God for that.

Our responsibility is to ensure that all the children's needs are met. We went to do shopping for their various school items. School fees was paid in time. We even accompanied some of them to school on the reporting day. We are delighted to inform you that all the kids are now in school. We always encourage them and advice them to work really hard.
Rose has prepared a short devotion on what she's been learning and would like to share it with us.
It’s found in Zechariah 8:23
Thus saith the Lord of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, "We shall go with you, for we have heard that God is with You”
It is possible for this God to be with a people and that is what we have been called into when we were engraved and joined with Him.
See what verse 23 says:
• In those days (we are in those days) • It shall come to pass-meaning it is divinely arranged that it shall be so
• Ten men not one or two
• Shall take hold-will want to connect with you
• Him that is a Jew (called out one-which you and I are by salvation
• We will go with You-not optional. They demand they must not be left. We will go is clear determination to join us-why?
• For we have heard that God is with you!
Get set this month to become an attraction by reason of God being and showing up in You. People will marvel at His doings in you and desire/demand to be connected with you!
This has began to happen and no better month to set this realization on course but in September.
At Real stars we carry out home visits to follow up on the progress of our kids. In the beginning of September, Natalie and Joan (Volunteers) visited Elizabeth Onyango’s home. She lives in Kibera slums with her father, her step mother and four of her siblings. They all live in a small single room house. According to our observation, there was only one small bed. We assumed that that was where the parents slept while the children slept on the floor.
Elizabeth and her siblings were the only ones at home during the visit. Their parents had gone to look for “Kibarua” (odd jobs to supplement their daily needs). They welcomed us heartily. We spent some time together with them and thanked God for Elizabeth's family.

Charles cleared high school in November 2009 courtesy of real stars.
On the 13th of September Rose and Diana (Volunteer) of Real stars took Charles Kyalo to Rainbow Polytechnic located in Diguna Tinderet. He had decided to pursue a course in Electrical Engineering. Charles has a Kenyan sponsor. Joining college was going to be a whole new experience for him.
The Rainbow Polytechnic is known to produce very competitive individuals in their various fields of specialization. Therefore this was a perfect environment for Charles to acquire skills for his career.

As we were taking him to college, we noticed that the terrain was mostly hilly further into the Great Rift Province. Rift Valley inhabitants are mainly farmers. There were large tracts of land which were cultivated with tea , sugarcane , maize and wheat.
The journey took us almost 8 hours. It was quite tiresome but it was for a noble course. On arrival, we were received warmly and comfortable rooms were provided for us to ease the exhaustion.

JULY – AUGUST NEWSLETTER
Shalom Everyone!
We thank God the Almighty for granting us the opportunity to share with you about the blessings that we have received from Him! The atmosphere in our country is very political. We are approaching the long awaited referendum polls quite fast. In the course of July we have had 2 by-elections taking place in the Rift valley province and in the Coastal province. In both elections, the constituency members were voting for parliamentary membership candidates. On top of that, most of the citizens are complaining about the recent move by the Members of Parliament to have their salaries raised so that they accept to be taxed. What is making us even raise our voices more is that there is no evidence of sustainable development in majority of the constituencies! All we can do and need to do always is pray for peace and an end to corruption.
“God Makes Ways Where There Seems To Be No Ways . . .”
Though the weather is very chilly, July has been a very good month for us! We just got a new volunteer! This is a lady from Arizona named Natalie Swain. She comes every afternoon and will be with us till December. She has helped in the filing and we also did a home visit with her. We went to visit the family of one of the children who is sponsored with us. His name is Fredrick Kimeu and he is in primary school. We had Chai (Kenyan Tea) which was not an all knew experience for her as she has gotten to having that for breakfast with her hosts.

The coming of Natalie is such a great blessing from God. It’s like God “created a river in the desert” for us! This is because Agnes who has been with us for the last 1 year will be leaving to join university. She will be studying Law, a four-year course, at degree level. Therefore her place will not be vacant as Natalie and Angella (the volunteer we just got in May 2010) will be there. The month of August began on a sad and a happy note simultaneously. It was sad because Agnes was leaving Real Stars to pursue her studies. However the happiness was brought by Rose coming back with more blessings for herself (and the new sponsors) and more miracles for the children who had been on the waiting list for sponsorship – “For I know the Plans I have For You, Says The Lord, Plans For Welfare And Not For Evil, To Give You A Future And A Hope” – Since the children were on holiday, August was also a busy month. Due to the preparations required for the children for the next term. By God’s Grace we managed to accomplish this. In addition, we had to upgrade our children’s database. This is because some of the children in the waiting list who got sponsors will now fully join the Real Stars programme. Although this will mean more work for us God already has that under control through Natalie and Angella.
“Meet A Real Star . . . .”
Faith Mwikali is the 7th child in a family of 8 children. Faith lives with her mother, 6 of her siblings and Robert Mutie her cousin, in Kibera slums. They live with him because his mother died when he was only a day old. Faith’s parents separated in 2005. Their live in a tiny, single room mud house.

Their house is not spacious and they have squeezed three seats, two stools, a single bed, a table and a double bed. The single bed forms the sleeping area of their mother and the double bed forms the sleeping area of the rest of the siblings. In one corner is a small area for preparing their meals.

They have electric connection which is paid together with the money for rent. She does small scale business where she sells mostly groundnuts and this is the only source of income that she has. Their mother uses the income from her small-scale business to meet their life expenses but with difficulty. On top of that, their father offers them no support. We have enjoyed some sunshine and some amount of rainfall. This rain has been experienced also in the dryer parts of the country and we are very thankful to God!
Farewell 2009!
As we wind up this year, we have many reasons to thank God for! Firstly the support you sponsors have given to our children throughout has played a big part in enabling the children to finish this school year. We thank God for enabling our children who were form four candidates to finish their secondary education. We have faith that they will perform well since they are Real Stars!! 22 of them will be attending the Diguna Camp in December for the teenagers.
Thank the Almighty for His Blessings!God has blessed us in so many ways in the past months. To start with, in August we were able to buy some of the children in our programme some textbooks that they needed. Most of the times, it is hard to get the specific books that they need. Since they were on holiday, we were busy with getting shopping for them and also items for those who were taking their final examinations. All that would not have been possible without your commitment. (God Bless You Greatly!). We were blessed to have two volunteers from Nairobi, Kenya. These are, Miriam Ayaa and Agnes Andeso. Miriam joined us in May this year. She lives in Kawangware Slums with her elder sister. She is orphaned. She will be starting secondary school next year (2010). She has been of great help most especially in the office errands like mailing, filing and recording the petty cash expenses. Agnes joined us in late July. She lives in Satellite with her elder sister. She is also an orphan. She will be with us until May or September 2010 when she will join The Catholic University of Eastern Africa to study Law. She would like to be an Advocate for the rights of children. She has been very helpful in taking the case histories of the new children getting into our programme and doing the home-visits and follow-ups on some on some cases. September was not as busy except for the time when the children were reporting back to school. All of them were able to get to school in time. In the month of October we were blessed to have a volunteer named Allyssa Adams from the United States. She is studying Peace and Conflicts at Daystar University in Kenya. We did a home visit with her to two sisters. Allyssa left a while later. We were joined by Gloria Namwo from Kenya who is studying Community Development at Railway Training Institute. Gloria is on attachment with us for three months. She is of great help especially when it comes to fieldwork. She also assists in taking the case histories. Something we are thankful to God for as sometimes it gets hectic in the office. This month of November was not any busy especially because we had to take a break of two weeks so that we are replenished to tackle the busy month of December.
Let’s offer Christ the Manger of our Hearts!
As we approach this very beautiful celebration of the Birth of our Lord Christ Jesus, Real Stars wishes you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year! We ask you to help us pray for the safety our children during this December holiday as some might be traveling to upcountry to be with relatives during this festive season. Pray also that our children will be prudent during this long holiday so that they don’t engage in activities that would affect their lives.
Let me introduce you to a Real Star! – Miriam Night
Miriam Night is a 12-year-old girl who lives in the heart of the slums of Kibera. She is the third born in a family of five. She has never met her father and her mother passed away in 2005 leaving them under the care of their maternal aunt, Grace Nasila. Her elder siblings (Patrick and Nang’osi) live on their own. Patrick plucks tea in a farm in Kiambu, Central Kenya while Nang’osi does odd jobs at Rongai which is located on the outskirts of Nairobi City. Miriam and her younger siblings (Richard and Diana) live with this aunt, together with her 2-year-old daughter Scorvia.

Their aunt who was unable to send them to school due to lack of fees would leave them unattended as she went to do the odd jobs. This caused Miriam and her siblings to start borrowing food in the nearby market and neighbouring estates and they ended up bumping into Rose. She got them a well-wisher who has been providing them with food regularly. However, Miriam and her siblings could not join school yet due to lack of finances. During this time Miriam and her siblings were left to care for their cousin Scorvia. However that changed since Rose managed to get both Miriam and Diana a sponsor who caters for their school expenses and they have since been attending school.

Miriam’s younger brother, Richard, who has also been out of school will be starting school soon. Miriam and Diana were forced to repeat their previous classes and this has motivated them to work even harder.

Praise the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever!First of all, we here at Real Stars want to thank all of you for your support and love for these children. Without you they would not be where they are at today. You have changed their lives forever and God will surely bless you for your generosity.
In the past month we have got our very own mail box! So now we have our own address and can quit using Rose’s. We also got our Pin number to help us file for deductibles on taxes! On top of that we got our own bank accounts – one for Shillings and one for Euros! In Kenya it is very very difficult to get these things and we have received them quicker than we anticipated! Thank you Jesus! Another blessing we have this month is Jackie Cooper, a university student from the United States that has come to help us for the month. She is studying International Business and Operations Management at the University of Minnesota. Jackie has completely redone our filing system and is helping us upgrade our technology and data.
In everything through prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God! And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds! We ask that you pray for the health and safely of all our kids, especially as they start school holidays. Also, it hasn’t been raining as much here as is needed so we pray that God will send the floods down so we can have a good harvest and that water wouldn’t be in such short supply. Sometimes people have to walk for kilometers to find a water source.
And now I would like to introduce a Real Star – Brian Musa Omollo!
Brian grew up in the Kibera slums and in the midst of his hard childhood found that he loved to sing. His parents couldn’t afford to send him to school, but his extended family paid for him to go until he started receiving support from Real Stars. He is taking a 3D Animation course at university which he couldn’t otherwise do without the support of Real Stars sponsors.
Brian originally wanted to study Mass Communications, but when he was applying to university and told them his passion was music they suggested he get involved with cartoons instead. He loves the course and loves composing. He knows that because he trusts in God his life is going somewhere. He longs to provide for his family, especially for his five younger sisters. Many of Brian’s friends have turned to the streets and become gangsters, some have even been shot, but he is relying on the promise that God has a purpose for him so he joyfully continues with his studies.
Brian was born in Mumius, in the countryside. He lived with both his parents until they moved to Nairobi when he was 2 years old. At 5 he started nursery school. Then His parents moved back the countryside and he lived with his two lovely guardians: his grandmother and grandfather. His only brother died from illness at age 6 when Brian was still in primary school. When he started primary school his grandfather and uncles paid his school fees until year 8. After that his father paid for his education up to Form 2 when he was unjustly arrested for being in the vicinity of a civil dispute over land. He has been in jail for 2 years and has not yet been released even though he was not involved in the dispute. Such is the justice system in Kenya. God blessed Brian with a sponsor when he was about to enter Form 3. While Brian was still living with his grandparents, his grandfather became sick and passed away. Then Brian’s aunt moved from Nakuru to live with him and her son, Musa Ramadhan. Ramadhan should be in Form 1 but can’t afford school fees even though his mother now works security in Bomas. Brian has his own house near his aunt’s where he lives with and old friend, Collins. They live in a one room house, with sheets for bedroom walls, and no electricity, but Brian never loses hope and always has a smile on his face. His cheerful attitude is contagious as he talks about the future.

When he gradutates from school, Brian wants to open his own music studio and work as a producer for other people’s music as well as his own. He prays that God will bless him with money so that he can open a children’s home for the children of Kibera slums.
Since he grew up there he knows the problems the children face and wants to help them. He would also like to help with church building, especially in the countryside.
Brian likes watching football and his favorite team is Manchester United. His favorite player is Rooney because he is rough around the edges, and that reminds him of where he grew up. Brian also likes to play Playstation at his friend’s house, who has creatively started a business where kids can go and pay for PS time. He prays that God will bless him with a computer for his studies.
